About Our Practice

In 1997, two of Hampton Roads’ finest and well-established anesthesiology groups, Julius J. Snyder, MD & Associates of Norfolk and Associated Anesthesia, Inc., joined to form Atlantic Anesthesia.

Our practice has grown to include over forty practicing physician partners and over eighty Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists who are supported by a well-organized, experienced administrative staff that allows our clinical teams to do what they do best—serve you.

Through innovative programs and practices, they deliver consistent, high quality health care, which translates into excellent results for the patients, surgeons and hospitals we serve.

INNOVATION

We are constantly seeking ways to put the latest scientific evidence into practice by conducting rigorous internal scrutiny of our guidelines and protocols. Our providers are evaluated regularly in a “360º” process by their peers and customers to provide the feedback necessary for continued improvement. From our customized perioperative patient evaluation form to the Patient Controlled Analgesia order set—which has been acclaimed and adopted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)—we continue to enhance our culture of excellence.

COMMITMENT

Our strong community involvement stems from the founder of our practice, Julius J. Snyder, MD, who was the first anesthesiologist to practice at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Other anesthesiologists joined the practice from the surrounding area, and we continue to grow the practice in that way today by seeking professionals who are dedicated to our region and committed to the long-term well-being of the people of Hampton Roads. Many of our CRNAs have come from training programs in the area, including Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University, establishing a firm commitment to service in the area.

We are very proud that the top 100 surgeons we work with recently rated us a 4.44 on a 5.00 scale as we delivered high volume care across a spectrum of settings including multiple outpatient surgical centers, trauma centers, high risk obstetrical centers, and numerous centers of excellence for surgical subspecialties.
